BAD NEWS... Treehouse officially closed until further notice due to fire (25/3)
BYRON Bay's iconic Treehouse on Belongil restaurant has been badly damaged in a fire.
Two NSW Fire and Rescue units along with Rural Fire Service volunteers spent more than 90 minutes battling the blaze early yesterday morning, which was confined to the restaurant's kitchen.
The fire service said the kitchen bore the brunt of the damage, with the remainder of the restaurant suffering smoke damage.
The restaurant's Facebook page is this morning filled with tributes from locals saddened by the blaze.
The business has put a post on the page thanking people for their support and vowing to rebuild.
"Firstly Thanks to everyone, for the concern and support, it means a lot to the treehouse family," the post reads.
"Most importantly nobody is hurt and we will be back! But how, why and when are still left to answer.
